Following our dreams isn't always easy, but it's amazing how everything changes when we take that first step.
Writing has always been my calling (I wrote my first book in 1st grade!) but I spent years suppressing that dream. I was afraid of failing, of not being good enough, of what others would think of me. Growing up, I'd felt the societal impact (aka awkwardness) that came with being a girl obsessed with fantasy. So, instead, I went to college to get my business degree and pursue a career in experiential marketing.
The next 10 years I worked as a marketing producer for small + fortune 500 companies, gaining experience in program management, content creation, microsite building, timeline maintenance, and logistics.
2019 was a particularly high point in my career but the lowest point in my mental health. I was burnt out, dealing with PPA, a shell of myself and had zero time or energy left for anything creative. When I was laid off in 2021 I took it as a sign and mapped out my future, who and what I wanted to be. I already knew the answer, deep in my core: a writer.
